Home Movies Characters
The characters in Home Movies are well developed and each is unique. Here are a few of the people in Brendon's neighborhood:
Main Characters:

Brendon Small
Brendon is the main character in the cartoon. He is an 8 year-old fourth-grader who makes his own movies in his studio (his mother's basement) with his friends Jason and Melissa.

Jason
Jason is one of Brendon's close friends and he acts in most of Brendon's movies. Jason is also, unequivocally, the main reason that this show if funny; he is simply hilarious. It's difficult to explain exactly WHY he is so funny, but check out the Jason Gallery and then maybe you'll see for yourself.

Melissa
Melissa is another of Brendon's closest friends and she acts with Jason in most of his movies. She is the smartest and most stable of the group, but sometimes she just seems to be a filler. She doesn't have any quirks like most of the other characters, but she does make a good 'straight man'.

Coach McGuirk
Coach McGuirk is Brendon's soccer coach at school. McGuirk is basically a big ex-bully who isn't doing too well. In episode one McGuirk actually goes on a date with Paula, much to Brendon's chagrin.
In later episodes, McGuirk almost becomes a fatherlike figure to Brendon, offering (bad) advice and taking him out. At one point, to get a job, McGuirk actually BECOMES Brendon, but that's another story.

Paula Small
Paula is Brendon's divorded mother. She seems to be somewhat nurturing, but she is also somewhat insecure. She works as a teacher of an adult creative writing class.
Paula Small was voiced by Paula Poundstone for episodes 1-5, and is now voiced by Janine Ditullio. |

Josie Small
Josie is Brendon's little sister. She doesn't get too much screen time overall, but one episode involving her nose and some marbles comes to mind as an instant classic.
She appeared more often in season one than in season two.

Duane
Duane is another kid who lives in Brendon's neighborhood. Duane is the lead singer of the rock band Scab and he seems to be a few years older than Brendon.
He kind of mumbles and sometimes it is hard to understand him; and the overall impression is that he isn't too bright but in the episode Director's Cut he out directs Brendon when he makes a rock opera based on Frantz Kafka's The Metamorphosis.

Erik
Erik is Melissa's father. He sounds just like Dr. Katz (and is voiced by the same person) and he sells real estate. At the beginning of the show is seemed that Erik would be a major character; as in Stay Away from My Mom he had a lot of screen time both playing the violin and hitting on Paula, but over time his screen time has diminished.

Mr. Lynch
Mr. Lynch is Brendon's teacher for pretty much everything but soccer. He is often angry with Brendon for not doing his work, and he's appeared in at least one of Brendon's films.
Probably his greatest moment came when he let Coach McGuirk talk him into going to Tijauna; he made McGuirk sit in after class to learn remedial Spanish (to be prepared). When they actually went, he promptly got so wasted he couldn't find his way back to the hotel or speak Spanish himself.

Walter and Perry
Walter and Perry are an inseparable duo (hence reviewing them as a pair) of young boys in Brendon's class. They are VERY committed to each other (they have already vowed to be married and to live together in a van when they grow up) though they seem to be innocent and niave. For a short time during their hiatus, Jason decided to join Walter and Perry and play, but they eventually drove him nuts.
Probably their greatest moment was at the wedding of Brendon's father when Walter tried to carry Perry over the threshhold.

Fenton Meuly
Fenton is a whiny spoiled little brat. He's also hilarious; and one of the funniest characters in the show. The only show that Fenton really had a lot of screen time in was The Party, which is a story of Fenton's birthday party which ended with Coach McGuirk and Trudy Meuly (Fenton's Mother) drinkin' some coffee and coach's Black Hole Brews.

Shannon
Shannon is the school bully. His first appearance on the show was in The Art of the Sucker Punch where he had a revenge fight with Brendon who wanted revenge for Shannon pushing Jason through the mud. He appeared later in Politics where he rigged the school election and used Brendon as his political stooge to go on a crime spree.
The coolest thing about Shannon is that he is voiced by Emo Phillips; a comedian I listened to when I was younger.

Loni
Loni is the red-haired girl from Brendon's class. In one episode (Yoko) she and Brendon date for awhile and she appears in some movies, but her acting skills manage to alienate Jason and Melissa and eventually she dumps Brendon.
